day 092: 2007 Aug 24
Have we pointed out how funny he looks when he is totally relaxed? If we have, instead focus on some of the other facial features that he has developed... Number 1: Square Head. I was fairly pleased that Aldus was born with an attractive looking cranium. Not to say that it is not attractive now, it is just more square. And sorta on the huge side. But that is understandable. Number 2: Dimple on chin. Yeah... Kristine does not have one. I do not have one... Maybe it is an excess of cheeks that is pushing the chin together? Number 3: You can't tell now, but the eyebrows move independently of one another. They are not prehensile, but Aldus has shown that he can raise one or the other independently. A very good early spock-like capability. Next, vulcan death grip... Number 4: Ears. He has Kristine's ear lobes. At least in the way that the bottoms attach to his head. Much more lobes than attached like mine. Number 5: My default "meh" frown. Compare my black and white baby photo that I keep around with this photo. The expressions are shockingly similar, even though he is asleep for this photo. Number 6: Eyes. Even closed, you can tell that he has both traits of Kristine and my eyes. You can see how the middle of his eyes are really big. And then the taper off very quickly at both sides like mine. The effect when his eyes are open is to exagerate the already infant-big size of his eyes. It is not scary/weird. In fact, several people (women) have said that it looks really nice. It will be interesting to see how he looks as he grows up. Nunber 7: No baby acne. An ongoing battle is his skin. It is much better than when he was a few weeks old. But it is still a bit "teenager, not clear, wanting product" messy. And that is really unsettling because a baby is supposed to have baby soft, baby clean, baby perfect skin. And Aldus doesn't. That said, the chicks still seem to dig him. Smelly diapers and all...
